Windows and Doors for Whitechapel

Window and Doors Replacement Programme

The Chief Executive of Fingal Co Council recently announced the availability of funding for a windows and door replacement program for social housing residents of Whitechapel in Blanchardstown.

Letters will issue shortly, advising tenants in Whitechapel and Corduff (Avenue/ Close/Crescent/ Gardens /Green/ Place/ Way) of a timeline for the replacement of Windows and Doors in their dwellings. Ongoing surveys will determine the next phase of the programme.

This is welcome news and another example of how the government have successfully dealt with the problem of under resourced local authorities by the introduction of a Local Property Tax. The budgets of Co Councils were decimated as a result of the recession and a new form of funding was necessary for councils to continue functioning. Taxing a persons home was a very regrettable but in my view necessary way of doing this. However I do believe that when the economy sufficiently improves that tax should be abolished, unless it is morphed into a direct local tax that exclusively funds local government.
