The community in the Mountview and Blakestown areas of Blanchardstown were horrified by the news of a double shooting last Friday that led to the death of an entirely innocent man. The fact that this occurred on the grounds of a youth center that is used by many different community groups is particularly infuriating. Gangland crime is a scourge in certain parts of the city. This has not been the case for many years in Blanchardstown but there is now a real sense of fear that it may return. We must make sure this does not happen. I want to offer my deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased man and to the wider community affected by this outrage.
